A Miracle in the Catskills
It was an early fall day last year when I found the miracle. I had been yearning for property in the northeast for a number of years. So when my friend Jana told me she was going to look up north for an old farmhouse, I told her I would go with her as I was looking for acreage. Our search led us up to a beautiful 70-acre piece of land where dairy farms and rolling hills comprise the neighborhood. The resplendent fall trees opened up to a spectacular view of the mountains and a beautiful little chalet. When I walked through the doorway, I immediately knew that this place was where I wanted to give my retreats and workshops. Jana and I, both loving the property, decided quickly to have a joint business venture. We could put a few cabins on the property for retreat attendees, as well as for family reunions, camping, lodging for travelers, etc. We could divide the property so that we could each have our own place and space…..
Our plan was for me to make an offer on the property after I dropped Jana off at the airport in Albany. While I drove back to the realtors, I heard myself asking for validation that this was the right thing to do. I said I would know it is the Highest Good if everything goes smoothly and I find an attorney today. Well, everything couldn’t have gone more smoothly, I made the offer and a couple hours later I had hired an attorney. I was elated and so very grateful for the validation for which I asked. It was late afternoon when I decided to drive back up to the property. It had been one of those gray, overcast days that wouldn’t allow for even a speck of sunlight. Again I heard myself asking for validation. I asked that if buying this property was the Highest Good to show me by allowing a break in the clouds when I drove up to the chalet. The third of a mile driveway is under a canopy of leaves but as I emerged and parked the rental car, I looked up and the clouds had parted and there was bright blue sky right above me. The clouds continued to leave an opening while I was there walking some of the trails, but as I drove out of the driveway to head back to my motel, the gray clouds quickly merged for the remainder of the day. Again, I was so very grateful for the validation for which I asked. The following day was Friday and I drove into NYC to see my son and his family for the weekend. Driving back to Albany on Sunday night I found myself asking for just one more validation. If this is TRULY the Highest Good, I will know for CERTAIN if the sellers accepted our offer [we had expected them to counter]. While I was waiting for my luggage in the Orlando airport baggage claim on Monday morning, I called the realtor and asked if she had heard from the sellers. “Yes”, she responded, “they have accepted your offer”.
I haven’t asked for any other validations. I know I have my miracle place. A place for retreat and recreation. A place for rest and revival. A place for reunion and seclusion. A place for peace.
