A Lost Poodle

I live in upstate NY in the Catskill Region on 70 acres.  This week I am pet sitting for a friend of mine.  His little poodle goes everywhere with him and is quite 'lost' without him.  Two hours after his owner left him at the house, Sammy disappeared.  So had Boogie, the chocolate lab that lives with me.  I called and called.  Boogie never goes far and always comes when I call.  I searched a few places and then got in the jeep and headed down our third of a mile long driveway, calling and looking. 

 I found Boogie down the road coming towards my call.  He would only have gone so far away if  he had been following Sammy.  I put the lab in the jeep and drove down the road looking for Sam.  I saw a truck coming my way and asked if he had seen a little while poodle.  Yes, about a mile the other way.  I headed that way but could see him nowhere.  How far could that little thing get?  Continuing to drive onto the county road with a 55 mph speed limit, I was filled with anxiety.  I had been looking now quite some time and it was beginning to get dark.  I knew Sammy would be in trouble on a dark road at night and with the temperatures reaching freezing.

I felt totally helpless.  It was then that I called on Angels.  Please bring Sammy back home.  I drove sadly and worriedly back to the house, looking carefully all along the way as the night sky came creeping in.  When I reached home, there was no sign of the little white curly animal.  I walked up the steps and into the house and reached for the phone.  As I dialed his owner, the words that his precious little guy was gone, stuck in my throat.  But I didn't need to tell him. As I watched in amazment Sammy, came up the steps, out of nowhere.
