In 2002, I bought 70 wooded acres on the western edge of the Catskill Mountains with a friend to build a retreat center with the intention of creating a space where one could have respite from a busy life, could feel the peace and sounds of surrounding nature, and still have all the comforts of home. We put up yurts with electricity, heating, and plumbing—glamping before it was a word. Harmony Hill Lodging and Retreat Center came into being in 2005 and lived a popular life until 2023, at which time Harmony Hill and I retired.
